  • Chief Nursing Officer (CNO)

    The Chief Nursing Officer functions as a member of the Jennie Melham M. Memorial Medical Center (JMMMMC) Senior Leadership team to provide direction, strategy, business development, budgeting, trend variance analysis and information technology for the promotion of outcomes focused nursing care treatment and services.  The CNO has 24-hour accountability and responsibility for planning, organizing, directing, controlling and evaluating nursing care treatment and services. Ensures efficient, economic, and quality performance measures to support and provide outcome focused quality health care services. Recommends administrative policy changes and consults with and advises JMMMMC CEO for Nursing Services operations. Responsible for communication with Nursing and clinical staff, Department leaders, Senior Leadership, various departments, and community.


    Oversees the daily operations of Nursing and Clinical Services (medical surgical, medical-surgical pediatrics, SWING, Emergency Services (ED, Trauma), Cardiopulmonary Services (RT, Sleep Lab, Pulmonary Rehab, Outpatient RT testing), Case Management (UR & Social work), Outpatient Ambulatory Nursing Services (Infusion Center, Specialty Clinics, Cardiac Rehab, Diabetic Education) and Surgical Services (Pre-assessment, SDS Pre/post, Surgery, Central Sterile Processing).


    SUPERVISION

    • Reports directly to the President/Chief Executive Officer


    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Graduate of School of Nursing; BSN or BA required; MSN preferred.

    • Current NE State License/Compact license as a Registered Nurse required. 

    • Minimum of 3 years of Senior Level Nursing Leadership experience.

    • Professional knowledge of nursing practice and the business of nursing.

    • Advanced interpersonal and communication skills necessary.

    • Effective leadership to build teams and create buy-in.

    • Effectively communicate with a wide variety of hospital personnel, community residents, and outside agency personnel.

    • Advanced analytical skills necessary to develop and implement new nursing systems, revenue budgets and prepare special and recurring reports or analysis. A strong ability to analyze nursing business operations.

    • A high level of experience in quality outcomes and patient care.

    • Support and implement the development of approved hospital wide patient care programs. 

    • Develop, review, revise, and oversee the implementation of clinical care services. 

    • Assure the provision of nursing care in accordance with specialty, regulatory, and JMMMMC practice standards.

    ADMINISTRATIVE PRACTICE

    • Facilitates the formulation and approval of Nursing Services annual goals and objectives in accordance with the JMMMMC strategic plan.

    • Develops, monitors, and ensures adherence to strategic plans for assigned organizational components in relation to total nursing service.

    • Facilitates the formulation and approval of Nursing Service Clinical Departments Operational Budgets.

    • Works closely with fiscal services, medical records, case management, and directors to evaluate reimbursement practices and ensure that the most cost-effective procedures, drugs etc. are being utilized. Works to implement best practices as opportunities are identified.

    • Responds to and communicates departments of oversight concerns, operations, practice changes and medical-legal issues to CEO, Risk Management, and medical staff as appropriate.  

    • Monitors complaints, Incident Reports, Case Reviews and RCA’s.  

    • Oversees the Clinical Nursing Departments Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement Plan.  

    • Prepares, administers and/or monitors management and staff performance evaluations including development of annual goals/pillars.

    • Oversees the review and update of the Nursing Services Orientation program and manuals. Oversees the monitoring and release of personnel from orientation in conjunction with Nursing leadership.

    • Monitors Nursing Service turnover and recruitment/retention plans and initiatives.


    PROFESSIONAL ACCOUNTABILITY/LEADERSHIP

    • Demonstrates knowledge of and follows correct chain of command in handling management and patient care challenges, including crisis situations.

    • Holds department meetings, records appropriate information, and follows through on actions.

  • Acute RN

    The RN renders collaborative nursing care via the Method of Practice Patient Coordinated Care to a caseload of patients for an assigned shift in accordance with the healthcare practitioner’s treatment plan, nursing standards of care/practice and professional code of ethics.  The RN is committed to promoting the health potential of the patient (body-mind-spirit) through the implementation of the nursing process.  Demonstrates ability to delegate appropriately and direct staff in the coordination and delivery of care; assumes responsibility for the appropriate utilization of care resources; demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships with others in problem resolution, is sensitive to the needs of patients, families, and fellow workers.  This is a full time, 36 hr/week position. Hours are 6:30am – 7:00pm.  Holiday rotation & every 3rd weekend (Fri, Sat, Sun) rotation required.


    SUPERVISION

    • Reports directly to the Acute Care Manager

    • Reports indirectly to the House Supervisor and other managers covering the department.

    • Delegates and directs assigned shift caseload team which may be comprised of LPN’s and CNA’s. 


    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Graduate of School of Nursing.

    • Clinical and/or work nursing experience in a hospital with ability to perform duties in the acute and skilled nursing setting is preferred.

    • Professional knowledge of nursing practice and regulations to support patient care delivery.

    • BLS within 6 months of hire and maintained.

    • ACLS within 6 months of hire and maintained.

    • PALS within 6 months of hire and maintained.

    • ICS 100 and 200 or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.

  • House Supervisor RN/ED Nights

    The Nursing House/Shift Supervisor is responsible for promoting and maintaining quality patient care through the effective management and delivery of patient care during his/her assigned 12-hour shift. A significant portion of time is spent coordinating resources, problem solving, supporting and/or providing direct care delivery, evaluating effectiveness of care, and promoting effective communication. Contributes to implementation and enforcement of Nursing, Medical Staff and Administrative policies and procedures, performance plans, and takes appropriate action. The House/Shift supervisor assumes the lead RN role in the absence of the CNO and Nursing Management staff. This position will also rotate into the ED RN role.  This is a full time, 36 hrs/week & every 3rd weekend (Fri, Sat, Sun). Hours for this position are 6:30pm – 7:00am. A Sign-On bonus of $7,000 is offered with this position.


    QUALIFICATIONS


    • Graduate of School of Nursing; BSN or BA preferred.

    • Minimum of 6 months of clinical experience, work related experience and/or previous House/Shift Supervisor/management role in a hospital setting. and ability to perform duties in acute, skilled, and emergency areas of facility.

    • Current NE State License or Compact license as a Registered Nurse required. 

    • Professional knowledge of nursing practice, and regulation to support patient care delivery.

    • Current BLS, ACLS, PALS or ability to obtain within 2 months of hire. 

    • Current TNCC or ability to obtain within 1 year of hire.

    • IS 100, 200, 700 and 800 or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.

    • Receives calls for patient placement, screens for appropriate admission criteria and notifies the department of patient placement.

    • Utilizes knowledge of UR criteria to assist with the appropriate admission status and placement of a patient.

    • Demonstrates knowledge of EMTALA regulation and paperwork.

    • Assumes responsibility in a shared or delegated assignment and supports team member’s practice through timely communication.

    • Services as a role model to colleagues, students, and other care providers

    • Actively participates in continued learning opportunities and continued self-development pertinent to all areas of Acute/ED care nursing.

    • Proficient in the management of provider orders in CPOE and in the order management system

    • Maintains effective communication channels with the entire healthcare team.

    • Assist administration with personnel management and other administrative duties as assigned.

    • Acts as a resource to the healthcare team

    • Performs as senior leader in event CNO/nursing management are absent. 

    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    • Oversees and/or assigns additional work duties during low volume periods when core staffing is in place.


  • Registered Nurse-Emergency Department-Swing Shift

    The RN renders collaborative nursing care via the Method of Practice, Patient Coordinated Care, to a caseload of patients for an assigned shift in accordance to the healthcare practitioner’s treatment plan, nursing standards of care/practice and professional code of ethics.  The RN is committed to promoting the health potential of the patient (body-mind-spirit) through the implementation of the nursing process.  Demonstrates ability to delegate appropriately and direct staff in the coordination and delivery of care; assumes responsibility for the appropriate utilization of care resources; demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships with others in problem resolution, is sensitive to the needs of patients, families, and fellow workers. Reports directly to the Emergency Services Manager. Delegates and directs assigned shift caseload team which may be comprised of RN’s and NSS’s .


    The following shifts are available:  

     Swing Shift n Acute/ED. 11;00am-11:30pm; 24 hours/week and every 3rd weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)


    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Graduate of School of Nursing

    • Current Nebraska State License as a Registered Nurse required.

    • On the job experience necessary as determined by department orientation requirements in order to acquire and effectively utilize knowledge of department specific structure and/or process standards.

    • Interpersonal skills necessary in order to instruct/comfort patients/families; to maintain effective communication/contact with healthcare team members.

    • Analytical Skills necessary in order to prioritize workload and prepare nursing care plans, implement effective nursing care and develop solutions to problems concerning patient’s body, mind and spirit.

    • Basic computer knowledge, including Outlook and Microsoft Office

    • Basic Life Support within 3 months of hire and maintained

    • ACLS and PALS within 6 months of hire and maintained

    • TNCC and NRP within one year of hire 

    • Job functions must be performed on site with regular attendance.

    • supports the initiation of the  patient log via tracking board including update of medical diagnosis at disposition. 

    • Performs focused  nursing assessment for presenting condition

    • 1)may use the patient/family, EMS, chart, community agencies as a source of information  

    • Based on focused nursing assessment initiates ED standing orders. 

    • Collaborates with Provider in the treatment plan and patient response to care delivery

    • Keeps patient and/or significant other informed of care delivery plan

    • Continues to reassess and revise the established care plan in relation to the patient’s response to, and the outcomes of the care provided as condition warrants

    • Supports and develops Provider discharge plan of care. 

    • Implements patient/family education based on ED diagnosis, and individualized needs, including actions to take if condition worsens

    • If condition does not meet Melham admission criteria, supports patient stabilization and 

    • transfer to a higher level of care


    ADMINSTRAIVE PRACTICE

    • Oversees and provides feedback on work performance of the shift staff and other members of the health care team and provides feedback to the  House Supervisor, and/or Manager. 

    • Functions as RN caseload coordinator on assigned patient load.

    • Serves as a preceptor to students and staff as requested.

    • Follows chain of command to resolve issues or challenges.
